The Business Situation:
Impaired Visibility: In order to maintain a significant competitive advantage and improve employee productivity, the Online Services Division needed to monitor key performance indicators related to the various online consumer experiences they provide. These metrics needed to be available to managers throughout the division, in a timely and accurate manner.
The presence of multiple reporting portals with inconsistent metrics made it too cumbersome to consume and distribute information in a style that allowed visibility with “one version of the truth”. The existing process also prevented the retrieval of actionable information within a timely manner, resulting in lost productivity and measurable performance.
Technical Challenge:
Improve Visibility: Lacking a consolidated reporting strategy, the analysts were forced to manually consolidate Excel workbooks from multiple portals risking accuracy, version control, work redundancy and serving up inconsistent critical reporting data.
In addition, the data sharing process was not user friendly or intuitive to a customer’s natural ability to process and manage data.
Solving the technical challenge involved two distinct requirements:
- Leveraging our customer’s existing BI infrastructure (empathizing cost control measures)
- Understanding how to deploy intuitive and Personalized Business Intelligence that is quick and easy to adopt
Solution:
Ignite Visibility: Microsoft Online Services Division reached out to Extended Results to provide a naturally intuitive solution that would dramatically improve the cumbersome process in which data was consumed and shared. Utilizing our straight forward user oriented process (designed to match a user’s natural behavior as it applies to Personalized Business Intelligence), we understood the need to leverage existing metrics and focused on a delivery method that would be user friendly, easily adopted and most of all – easy to share across multiple groups.
Working collaboratively, we proposed PUSHBI Desktop, a near real-time Windows-based gadget that would support the existing backend databases and adopt a more personal approach, right from the customer’s desktop. Leveraging existing metrics as defined within SQL Analysis Services and simplifying the data delivery process was core to our focus for the customer. PUSHBI Desktop immediately fulfilled their needs, providing:
